EMIS Hydroponic Farm

As we learnt in our visit to the hydroponic farm in Green in the City in the Dizengoff Center, food crisis is one of the most burning environmental issues worldwide. And following their example, we decided to build a hydroponic farm at EMIS.

Our hydroponic system consists of pipes with holes in which the plants are growing and a tank with water pump elevating water to the top of the system. Hydroponic farm is a simple and self-sustaining system. It needs only supply of electricity which we solved now by connecting pump to the grid and liquid fertiliser which has to be added once a week. Plants growing in water are less prone to be attacked by pests or diseases. Moreover, they take much less space. Although our system was bought, similar device can be easily created from reused materials.

In our farm, we planted strawberry, oregano, broccoli, mint, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce and parsley. In Israel even in winter it does not get too cold so hopefully the plants will yield crops in the upcoming weeks.
