Visit to Kibbutz Lotan

This year, EMIS Project Week was focused on borders of Israel. After three days spent across the country, the Green Team went to the Arava to explore topic of sustainability in some of the most innovative kibbutzim in the country. First of them is kibbutz Lotan, which hosts the Eco-Campus and the Eco-Kef, and promotes permaculture.

EMIS Hydroponic Farm

As we learnt in our visit to the hydroponic farm in Green in the City in the Dizengoff Center, food crisis is one of the most burning environmental issues worldwide. And following their example, we decided to build a hydroponic farm at EMIS.

Community garden

Building up on what we learnt about food crisis and need to grow food locally, we decided to build a community garden at EMIS. But it is much more than only this. The community garden is also about having a sense of shared responsibility and maybe most importantly, a lot of joy from taking care of your plants to eat delicious fruit and vegetables from them after a few weeks.
